The kettlebell revolution has arrived and Wild Geese Martial Arts is the official Dublin centre for The International Kettlebell & Fitness Federation.

BASICS
Kettlebell training has become the corner stone of the training programs for athletes, fighters and celebrities alike.

The "cannonball with a handle" is synonymous with extreme fitness, lean strength and rapid fat burning. It has been hailed as a near magical tool in the battle for health and fitness. In truth, there is no magic other than the nature of the kettlebll lifts themselves, full body, often explosive lifts that offer no option other than hard work.

Kettlebell workouts are intended to increase strength, endurance, mobility, agility and balance. They challenge both the muscular and cardiovascular system with dynamic, total-body movements.

Coach Dave Hedges will teach you the safe performance of Kettlebell and bodyweight drills followed by an intense workout.

BACKGROUND
The kettlebell or girya is a traditional Russian cast iron weight looking somewhat like a cannonball with a handle.

Although traditionally a Russian national sport, it has become a popular exercise tool in the United States and worldwide. Coach Dave Hedges has learned the art of Kettlebell lifting under two of the best in the world, IKFF founder, Steve Cotter and multiple title and record holder, Vasily Ginko.

Kettlebell lifting has been nationally recognized and played throughout the world for decades. Its' competitive exercises are the 'Two Kettlebell Jerk' and 'One Kettlebell Snatch'; performed in that order for ten minutes each. The competitor with the highest overall score wins.

PRACTICAL USE
In recent years kettlebell's have become immensely popular among athletes, especially Mixed Martial Artists, Military and elite security forces and anybody looking for power and strength that endures.

"I started the kettlebell class last year after my gym membership expired. I didn't renew my membership because I was bored with the gym. Weights for 40 minutes or so, followed by cardio, followed by some abs work...yawn!
I took up kettlebells after reading some reviews on the internet. It's a fantastic class and a killer workout; much better than any gym classes that I've ever taken.
Dave (instructor) is very knowledgeable, motivating and most importantly, keeps the class fun. I love the fact that it's a combination of a strength and cardio workout; no need to do the two separately anymore.
It's very easy to get motivated to go to the class; in fact…it's highly addictive!
If you're looking to get fit and build functional strength that you'll notice in other sporting activities, then be sure to check it out."
