1 – HELP US HELP YOU

In the last newsletter we announced that we are going full time, now we need you to tell us what you'd like to see at Wild Geese HQ as a full time studio dedicated to the best in Martial Arts and Fitness training.

1. What classes / training would you like to have available during the day?
2. What times would suit you best to train?
3. What services could we offer that we don’t already have?
4. We’re aware that there are a number of physical problems within the venue, in your opinion what would you have us fix first as a priority?
5. Xmas is on the horizon, we will have a WGMA Xmas party, I want all our members to attend regardless of which class you belong to, let me know which dates in Dec best suit you so we can get an idea of when to book it.
Put your answers in a email addressed to info@wildgeesema.com

Plus, we are about to launch a refer a friend offer, keep an eye out for the posters appearing in the club shortly.

Remember, Wild Geese operate a venue for you to train in, that essentially means it’s your club. We need your feedback and suggestions on how best to run it to give you the best training experience.

2 – WILD GEESE INTERVIEWED BY LOCAL YOUTH CHARITY

We were recently approached by a youth charity called SpunOut.ie. SpunOut.ie offers young people a platform for personal and social development leading them to increased all-round wellbeing in their own lives and in how they engage with society as citizens. . SpunOut.ie is youth-led in design, development and content, ensuring it reaches young people in a way that appeals to them. Using the pull factors of youth written magazine-style articles and a vibrant online forum for discussion and debate, SpunOut.ie provides a safe online space for young people to realise that they are not alone in the issues they face whilst growing up and, importantly, that they can make a positive change to their own wellbeing and to the world around them.

Since its launch in mid-2005, SpunOut.ie has received over 400,000 website visitors, directly involved 100s of young people in its development, reached millions through the media, and received awards and widespread praise from young people, parents, educators, youth workers and health professionals.
This ongoing success is testimony to the demand that is out there, not only for ways of addressing our young people’s health needs, but also for the provision of innovative and meaningful platforms for catalysing social change.
Only by taking new approaches to engaging and involving young people can their needs, and the needs of the wider society, be understood and met. SpunOut.ie is leading the way in this regard and signals a powerful opportunity that, with the right support, can only get better.

See our blog for all the latest news on SpunOut.ie MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

SpunOut.ie is developed and managed by the youth-led Community Creations charity, is endorsed by key youth, health and community bodies and receives funding from a range of public, private and philanthropic sources.

Of course we agreed.

First of all Wild Geese founder, Paul Cox was interviewed, that was followed by an impromptu demonstration of his “Kenpo Cubano” style, a blend of Kenpo and Eskrima.
As is normal for us, were unprepared and so everything you are about to see and hear is unrehearsed. We thank the crew at SpunOut.ie for making us look like we actually know what we’re doing…..
Here are the video clips:

We also posted them up on our own blog, but please do go onto SpunOut.ie and have a look around, they’re doing great work for our youth and therefore, our future.

Wild Geese

3 - STEVE MAXWELL WORKSHOP 2010

We recently had the honour of hosting the incredible Steve Cotter of the IKFF at Wild Geese, now it makes me almost burst with exitment to tell you all that Mr Cotters old colleague, Steve Maxwell has been I touch ASKING for us to setup a seminar for him here!

I’ll say that again, Steve Maxwell, one of the first black belts from the Gracie JuJitsu school, a man with around 40 years in the strength & conditioning industry, a Brazillian JuJitsu world champion and the guy Pro fighters such as Diego Sanchez of the UFC go to for training.

This man, dropped me an email saying how he’d love to come to my studio in Dublin!

You can probably tell, I’m more than a bit excited! I have personally followed Steve’s work for several years now, his training methods have probably influenced me more than any other and anybody that is a regular attendant of my Kettlebell Fitness sessions would attest to the efficiency of this style.

Steve and I have just agreed a date a few days a go, we are still talking about course content, but here’s what he’s offering:

Bodyweight training certification
Kettlebell Training Certification
Strength & Conditioning for the MMA Fighter

The first two are his usual options, I asked if he’d do the third, he agreed. If you have a preference, please let me know, I want this to be the best seminar you’ve ever attended.
The Dates (subject to change) are the 3rd and 4th July 2010, location is Wild Geese HQ, Dublin.
Keep an eye on the Blog and the Facebook event page and of course right here in this newsletter.

This is a video teaser for one of his other workshops, watch and enjoy.

Regards

Dave Hedges

4 - Lunchtime Classes, now open at WGMA HQ

We have decided that is was about time we opened up some daytime classes and training options. So Wild Gees owners, Paul Cox & Dave Hedges have stepped up and launched the first of these lunchtime training sessions.

Kenpo Karate and Filipino Martial Arts “Guru” (he hates being called that…) Paul Cox, will be in the studio every wed & thurs from 12-2pm.

During this time you will be able to drop in and learn his own unique style of martial arts. You’ll often hear references to Kenpo Cubano as you read these newsletters and the blog, if you still have no idea as to what this is, then these classes are the perfect time to find out.
Paul has over 30 years worth of training under his many black belts, the Kenpo Cubano style is the culmination of this extensive experience.
This is the distilled knowledge of the various Kenpo and Eskrima masters he has, and still does train under, add to that a lifetime in the security industry and you have a fighting method that is no nonsense, efficient and without rules.

It is the preferred training method of the Presidential Guard in the Gambia, it has been taught to Police units in Cuba and Mexico as well as to Doormen across Dublin. You get a cool demo of the system by watching the Demo we did for SpunOut.ie (above) Training will be the usual €10 per class or 10 classes for €80, don’t worry about what times your lunch falls, just get in and leave whenever you need to.

Coach Dave Hedges will be at our Pearse st headquarters every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 12 and 2pm.
During this time you will be able to come in, discuss your training wants and needs as well as take part in a 30 minute workout.
This is not a group class like the evening sessions, it is more like a standard gym membership whereby you simply turn up, train and leave. The difference between this and any other gym is that Dave is on hand to guide you, give you your program, teach you technique and ensure you progress.

While the Kettlebell will make up a large part of your training, you will also have access to bodyweight, barbells, sledgehammers and the heavy bags.

This is no “Fitness Centre” this is a House of Strength and you will be encouraged to train like you mean it.

The price for this service is either €10 per 30 minute session or €80 per month. Take the monthly option and you will be able to attend the evening sessions as well if you so wish.
You can learn more about Dave and the training methods we employ by visiting his new site, Wild Geese Fitness Training, or drop us an email for more info.

See you there
Wild Geese

5 - Wild Geese Mexico rep dismissed

With great regret and sorrow I have to announce that a man that was brought to our attention, trained and then given rights to represent the Wild Geese name has let us down.
I will not go into detail, but instead let it suffice to say we take our reputation very seriously and if any of our representatives, instructors or students put our hard earned reputation in danger, we will not hesitate to remove them from our ranks.

Julio Pichardo Loaiza, who is based in Aguas Calientes, Mexico has been informed that he is no longer part of the Wild Geese organisation and has been requested to stop using our name and logo in his teaching and advertising.

If anybody in the America’s wishes to know more about our methods and systems please contact either of our two original representatives.

Miguel Arroyo (Miami) can be reached via kenpocubano@hotmail.com
Frank “Chino” (Cuba) can also be reached on the same address.

We have no other representatives on that side of the Atlantic, anybody else apart from these two good men are fakes, not to be trusted. Regards

Minimalist Strength Training without bulk or fancy equipment

Power To The People, Russian Strength Training Secrets for Every American

A pretentious title but a truly fantastic book. Goes into great detail on how to perform the Deadlift safely and how to progress to massive amounts of strength without bulking up or wasting hours in the gym. I personally put 20kg’s onto my deadlift in only a few months of using the programme.
